Source: Crawfordsville Review, Jan 16, 1914 p 1

William Martin of Thorntown but for many years an honored resident of this county died at his home in Thorntown Thursday morning at 12:30 a.m.  Mr. Martin was 82 years of age and his death was due to a complication of diseases incident to his age.

For the last 16 years Mr. Martin has resided in Thorntown but for at least the 60 years prior thereto he resided on his farm, one mile west and a half mile south of SHannondale in this county.

William Martin was one of the pioneers of eastern Montgomery County and will be remembered by the older citizens as being a man worthy of confidence and counsel.  He had a wide knowledge of the business of farming and by keen insight in the business amassed quite a competence.  In the year gone by he was a leading citizen of that community.

Mr. Martin was twice married, first to a Miss Craig who died many years ago and later to Mary Jane Nicely, a sister of Thomas Nicely, south of this city and of Mrs. Louis Plunkett of this city.  His second wie preceded him in death about four years ago.  He is survived by one son, James, who lives on the old farm.

The funeral will be held at the Shannondale Church, Saturday at 1 p.m.  Burial in the Shannondale Cemetery. - transcribed by kbz
